Indexing & Archiving
Overview
Indexing and archiving are critical for the visibility, discoverability, and long-term preservation of scholarly work. Heighpubs Otolaryngology and Rhinology (HOR) ensures that every article published is accessible today and preserved for future generations of researchers, clinicians, and policymakers. Our indexing strategy aligns with international best practices, while archiving follows trusted preservation standards.
Current Indexing
HOR is currently indexed and discoverable in the following databases and services:
- Google Scholar – for broad academic discoverability
- CrossRef – with DOI assignment for each article
- Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) – recognized open access certification
- OpenAIRE – ensuring compliance with EU open science mandates
Under Evaluation
HOR has submitted applications to major indexing services, and evaluation is underway:
- Scopus
- Web of Science (Emerging Sources Citation Index)
- PubMed Central
Archiving and Preservation
To ensure the longevity of published content, HOR uses multiple archiving mechanisms:
- Portico – participation in digital preservation services
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) – distributed archiving through partner libraries
- Institutional Repositories – authors may deposit their accepted manuscripts in their institution’s repository
- PKP Preservation Network (PN) – ensuring preservation of OJS-published content
Archiving Policy: HOR permits self-archiving of preprints, accepted manuscripts, and final published articles in personal, institutional, and subject repositories, in line with SHERPA/RoMEO green open access policies.
Benefits of Indexing & Archiving
- Increased Visibility: Indexed articles are more likely to be cited.
- Permanent Preservation: Archiving ensures content is not lost due to technical failures.
- Compliance: Meets funder requirements for open access and archiving (e.g., NIH, Horizon Europe).
- Trust: Indexed journals demonstrate transparency and credibility to the academic community.
Example Discoverability Pathways
Articles published in HOR may be found through:
- Library discovery tools (Primo, Summon, EBSCO Discovery Service)
- General search engines (Google Scholar, Bing Academic)
- Specialized medical indexes (once accepted: PubMed Central, Scopus, Web of Science)
